Role and Responsibilities Depending on team placement, Summer Analysts / Associates may work in one of the following areas: Desk Strategists sit on trading desks and develop models and strategies to support trading decisions, analyze and manage risk for existing positions, and build pricing and market models Market Modelers enhance the Firms ability to manage risk and generate returns by developing mathematical finance frameworks, valuation models, and hedging strategies Core Analytics teams develop domain-specific languages, algorithms, analytic libraries, and tools used to specify, value, trade, and process financial positions Model Standards and Enforcement teams work with strategists, market modelers, Market Risk, and the Firms Chief Risk Officer organization to define and enforce standards for models used in valuation Qualifications and Skills You are pursuing a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD degree with an expected graduation date between October 2027 and July 2028 Studying Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, Financial Engineering, Financial Mathematics, Engineering, or a closely related quantitative discipline Experience with coding languages such as Python, Q/KDB+, R, SQL, VBA, C++, or Java is a strong advantage Enjoy solving complex problems that require deep analytical reasoning and quantitative analysis A strong interest in finance and financial markets Analytical and adaptive, a strong multi-tasker, a collaborative team player, and possess a strong work ethic Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills Fluency in English is required Please note: Candidates with more advanced academic backgrounds or relevant experience may be considered for Associate-level roles. Role and Responsibilities The role and responsibilities of Industrial Placement & Summer Analyst include: Work in one or more of our main product groups, building a strong foundation of financial skills and a solid understanding of the market. Develop a foundational understanding of capital markets products, including equities, fixed income instruments, and derivatives used for financing and risk management, through structured training and on the job exposure Support the origination, structuring, marketing, and execution of equity and debt capital markets transactions, including IPOs, followon offerings, and fixed income issuances, working closely with senior bankers and crossfunctional teams. Conduct financial, market, and investor analysis, including market updates, comparable transaction analysis, and assessment of macroeconomic and capital markets trends to support the business. Assist in the preparation of client-facing materials, such as pitch books, transaction presentations, marketing documents, and internal briefing notes, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail. Morgan Stanleys Business Control Unit manages comprehensive risk for equity business, including non-market risk, regulatory compliance, counterparty risk, client documentation, and governance, advising internal and external clients on risk optimization and ensuring operational resilience and efficiency across the department. Internship Programs The Business Control Units Internship Programs begin with a one-day orientation, where Industrial Placement Analysts are introduced to the Firm, its core businesses, and their fellow interns through a firmwide networking event. Interns then participate in division-specific training designed to build the core skills required for a successful internship experience. The program features a Senior Management Speaker Series, desk teach-ins, cross-divisional networking opportunities, community service events, performance reviews, and a robust mentorship program. Role and Responsibilities Non-Market Risk Team This role will cover Non-Market risk elements of the business, including operational, franchise and regulatory risk.
