BHP has awarded an engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) contract to a JV between Fluor and Hatch, to support the proposed expansion of its copper smelter and refinery facilities in South Australia.
The contract will be executed in stages as BHP progresses towards a final investment decision on the smelter and refinery expansion in FY27.
The first stage of EPCM activity represents more than $40 million of investment to lead overall strategy and planning through the projects study phases and forms part of the larger, separate investment for near-term growth projects at Olympic Dam.
Fluor / Hatch are currently setting up a team for this project, and due to pressing timeframes BHP have urged them to work with their Recruitment partners to assist in some areas where their own recruitment team may be struggling. They will need up to about 250 professional people for t...
