PhD in Novel technologies for Interventional Neuroradiology

Erasmus MC

Rotterdam, South Holland, Netherlands Full time July 11, 2026

Found Description

You will develop and evaluate new techniques to make thrombectomies simpler and more effective. Working closely with TU Eindhoven and Philips, you will bridge the gap between technical innovation and clinical practice.

Job description

Stroke remains one of the leading causes of long-term disability. Thrombectomy is a relatively recent treatment option for strokes caused by a blood clot blocking a major artery in the brain. During this procedure, an interventional radiologist removes the clot using a catheter. Although highly effective, it is also technically challenging.

In collaboration with Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and Philips, Erasmus MC is developing new technologies to simplify this procedure. Within the Q-MeDIA project, funded by Health~Holland, the focus is on integrating diagnostic information into the intervention. The goal is to make it easier to reach the site of the blockage and to better assess the success of the treatment.
