Emerging Markets within the context of Mastercard are markets that are characterized by three broad themes: 1) They represent significant opportunity in terms of circular shift from cash to digital forms of payment; 2) They lead the world in digital inclusion, particularly as it relates to the adoption of mobile technology; 3) The payment landscape in these markets differs considerably from the norm in terms of solutions, business models, and operators. More than half of the 210 countries and territories where Mastercard operates can be considered emerging markets.
