The main research interest of our group is the study of the molecular bases of common and rare renal disorders. Our research is mostly focused on investigating the mechanisms of pathogenesis of a rare genetic disease called Autosomal Dominant Tubulointerstitial Kidney Disease (ADTKD). ADTKD is genetically heterogeneous and it can be caused by mutation in several genes; our focus is on ADTKD forms due to mutations in the genes encoding uromodulin and renin. We are also actively working on understanding the functional link between uromodulin common gene variants and genetic risk of chronic kidney disease and hypertension.
