The City of Hamilton’s Engineer‑In‑Training (EIT) program provides civil engineering graduates with a 4‑year work contract that includes 2 years with the Engineering Services Division in the Public Works Department and 2 years with the Growth Management Division in planning & economic development. This contract offers comprehensive training, hands‑on experience, and a clear path to a Professional Engineer’s license under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES

Reporting to the Manager, the EIT will work in a team environment with staff engaged in infrastructure project delivery over the course of the 4‑year work contract. The EIT will perform duties in the Infrastructure Renewal, Design, and Construction sections in Public Works for 2 years and in the Infrastructure Planning, Development Engineering, and Development Construction sections in the Planning & Economic Development Department for 2 years.
